I’m Irwin, retired, living with my wife Dolly, of 52 years in the middle of the state of Florida in a 55+ retirement community. I set up my own blog with two thoughts in mind – one to share our retirement experience with others seeking a retirement where they can not only be physically active, mentally challenged, but also emotionally satisfied, and two to rant and rave on occasion about anything that crosses my mind that I feel I need to vent about.
I spent my career working in insurance, both personal and commercial and have been on both the agency side as well as the company side. While working in this industry we had the occasion to live in PA, NJ, AZ, and FL. Both my wife Dolly and I retired at the end of 1996. Not once since we retired have we regretted our decision. We have both taken up new endeavors such as writing (me) and line dancing (both of us) of which the line dancing satisfies our need for physical exercise. I have always had a desire to write and I quench my thirst for writing by blogging about both our experiences as well as my insights pertaining to how our lives are unfolding as we age. As we have learned during these past 19 years, we are far from alone in our quest to make our retirement years as enjoyable as our prior years be they our married years, child-rearing years, or the years we spent working.
Dolly and I have two sons, one daughter, four granddaughters, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter. No pets. One son lives in California with his wife, the other son lives in Connecticut with his wife, and our daughter lives in the same city as we do. One would think that we get to see the granddaughter that lives here more than the others, but alas such is not the case. She became a freshman at college this year and so I am sure visits to see her will become as few and far between as our trips to CA or CT.
I am a retired Underwriting Manager, online instructor and part-time writer. Other than attempting to be a good husband and father, I am a blogger, student (hard habit to break), writer (written a few short stories), and avid line dancer. Both myself and my wife teach line dancing to senior citizens living within our retirement community. We have also been known to perform with a group of line dancers (ages range from 65 to 80+) at retirement homes, assisted living facilities, VA hospitals and church luncheons. When we are not doing all that we are usually traveling.
Welcome to my blog. I encourage you to visit often, provide comments, ask questions and add your own insights. We are all on this journey together.
