What is Silence?

Don’t ever mistake

my silence for ignorance,

my calmness of acceptance,

or my kindness for weakness.”

Anonymous

To me, silence is that quiet time on a Sunday morning when we have no place to go and I can wake up early before the sunrise, make a cup of coffee, retire to the front of the house where I can sit in both solitude and silence watching the day begin. No traffic, no noisy trash trucks, no lawnmowers – just me and my cup of coffee.

Now that is silence!

About iglengel

Welcome to my blog: I retired in September of 1996 after twenty-five years as an Underwriting Manager (and one year with a smaller insurance company) and have written blog postings on the website Retirement-online.com prior to setting up this Word Press free site. Having retired almost twenty years ago I have experienced my own retirement transition. I survived and you will too. Oddly enough, now that I have more time, I am discovering various things about myself that I would not have imagined myself doing in retirement. Why does it take so long for, we as individuals, to stop and think about ME!? Join me as I share with you some of the shenanigans we have been up to since retiring. Retirement is and can be a whole lot of fun. Welcome to my site – remember – retirement is not the destination we are seeking – it is the journey! I encourage you to visit often, provide comments, ask questions and add your own insights. We are all on this journey together.

  1. I long for that kind of silence, but I only notice it when my mind is silent too.

    ‘Sounds’ delightful!

  3. Hey Irwin, Great post. I have been lost in a sea of email with new post, I was sinking, but now I have changed my schedule. And in going through my emails, I discovered your post – a bit delayed. I really hope i will be able to read and keep in touch with all better now that I have reduced my posting schedule.

Ahhh – I am in harmony with your Sunday morning ritual of silence,…. what bliss.

I also love this quote : coincidentally i am reading it for the second time today

“Don’t ever mistake,my silence for ignorance, my calmness of acceptance, or my kindness for weakness.” Anonymous

I love this quote – it really sums up a lot and boy I feel like saying that out a load to a few …. But of course one does not – cause it is not worth it.

Great post and sorry so late in commenting
    I hope you are well
    Regards Bella
